CHALLENGECAPE TOWN, the only CHALLENGEFAMILY franchised race on the African continent, has issued today that should the race not be going ahead due to COVID-19 restrictions, the company will offer a full refund to all athletes entered. The race, which is set to take place throughout the City of Cape Town on November 8th 2020, is still very much on at the time of the statement, with the core team working hard behind the scenes to guarantee another excellent triathlon experience after its debut in 2019, which saw the event win The Best New Race at the Global CHALLENGEFAMILY Awards last year.
Since the Corona virus outbreak hit South African shores in February, many races have been cancelled or postponed due to the seriousness and contagiousness of the disease. Theteam have followed the pandemic closely, and whilst understanding the decimating affect it has had on the sports event industry in the country, commend and support President Ramaphosa’s tough stance to help combat the deadly virus.
CHALLENGECAPE TOWN has responded to the uncertainty of the local triathlon calendar by offering a clear message to triathletes, swimmers and runners alike. “Should the race not go ahead due to restrictions enforced on social or sporting gatherings in November” Gary Marescia, CHALLENGECAPE TOWN Race Director states, “Each athlete will receive a full refund of their entry amount, less the online portal service providers processing fee of R150. This applies to those racing the middle distance triathlon, the side events such as the fun run and the open water swim, and relay teams. As CHALLENGECAPE TOWN, we remain true to our motto that ‘It’s All About The Athlete’; We believe that this decision is the fairest and most honest thing to do in these turbulent times”.
